Terms of Use
Last updated: 27 September 2026
These terms apply when you use this website and when you buy a document from us. Please read clause 4 in particular, because it sets out what you may and may not do with a document you have paid for.
1. Who we are
Don't Pay That is a trading name of Maxine Brown, a sole trader based in England. We are not a limited company and we have no company registration number. You can reach us through the contact page.
2. What we sell
We sell professionally drafted document templates and accompanying guidance notes, supplied as digital downloads. You fill in your own details and send the document yourself, in your own name.
You are the person dealing with your own case. We are not, at any point.
3. We are not solicitors and this is not legal advice
We are not a solicitor or a barrister, we are not regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority, and we do not represent you. Nothing on this site or in any document you buy is legal advice on your particular circumstances, and no solicitor and client relationship arises between us.
We do not guarantee any outcome, and we never will. Whether a charge is cancelled depends on the facts of your case, the conduct of the operator or authority, and the decision of an adjudicator or a court. The full position is on our disclaimer page.
4. Your licence: what you may and may not do with a document you buy
This is the clause that matters most, so it is written plainly rather than in legal language.
What you may do
When you buy a document, you get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use it for your own matter. That means you may:
- adapt it, fill it in, and send it in your own name;
- keep your own copies of it, including printed copies;
- use it for more than one charge of your own, if you receive another one;
- show it to a solicitor, an adviser, a friend or a family member who is helping you with your own matter;
- use it for a charge issued to a member of your own household, on a vehicle you or they own.
What you may not do
You may not, without our written permission:
- sell, resell, rent, licence or sublicence any document you buy from us, or any part of it, whether on its own or as part of something else;
- publish or redistribute it, including uploading it to a forum, a file-sharing site, a social media post, a document marketplace, a course, or a membership site;
- use it to provide a service to other people, whether paid or unpaid, including any appeals service, claims service, template service, consultancy or advice service;
- use it, or any part of it, to train, fine-tune, prompt or build an artificial intelligence system, model or tool, or to generate documents for anyone other than yourself;
- remove, obscure or alter any notice identifying us as the author;
- copy our wording into your own product, template or website, whether or not you credit us.
To be clear about the reason, because it is not an unreasonable one. A great deal of work goes into researching and drafting these documents, and the whole of the value is in the wording. One resold copy can serve an unlimited number of people, which is why this restriction exists and why we take it seriously.
If you want to use our documents in your own business or service, ask us. We would rather have that conversation than find out afterwards. Use the contact page.
If you breach this clause, your licence ends immediately and we may take steps to protect our copyright.
5. Copyright
We own the copyright in every document, guidance note, article and page on this site, except where something is quoted from a public source such as legislation or a judgment. Buying a document gives you the licence in clause 4. It does not transfer the copyright, and it does not give you any other rights in our material.
Legislation and court judgments quoted in our documents are public material and we claim nothing in them. Our drafting around them is ours.
6. Using this website
You may read this site and use our free guides and checkers for your own purposes. You may not scrape the site, copy its content in bulk, attempt to reach paid content without paying for it, or use any part of it to train an artificial intelligence system.
Our free articles and guides are there to be read and shared by linking to them. Please link rather than copy.
7. Cancellation, refunds and prices
Your cancellation and refund rights, and how they work for a digital download, are set out in full on our fee disclosure page. They are stated in one place on purpose, so that the two pages cannot drift apart and contradict each other.
The price of a document is the price shown at checkout. We may change our prices, but a change never affects an order you have already placed.
8. Our responsibility to you, and the limits of it
We will supply documents that are of satisfactory quality, fit for the purpose we describe, and as described. Those are your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and we do not exclude or limit them, because the Act does not permit us to. Nor do we exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
What we cannot take responsibility for is the outcome of your case, or a decision you make about it. You choose which document to use, what to put in it, what evidence to attach, and when to send it. If a document is faulty, not as described, or the wrong one was supplied, tell us and we will put it right or refund you.
Subject to the paragraphs above, our total liability to you in connection with any document is limited to the amount you paid for it.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights.
9. Deadlines are yours to meet
Parking charges, penalty charge notices and court claims all run to strict deadlines, and a missed deadline can cost you rights that cannot be recovered. Every document we supply tells you what the relevant deadline is. Meeting it is your responsibility. Please do not leave a purchase or a posting to the last day.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The version that applies to your purchase is the version published on the day you bought, and the date at the top of this page tells you when it last changed.
11. Law and courts
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your own courts, and if you live in England or Wales the courts of England and Wales will deal with any dispute.
12. If something goes wrong
Please tell us first, through the contact page, and we will try to put it right. If you are not satisfied, our complaints procedure explains what happens next. If you may need extra support at any point, please read our vulnerable customer policy, or simply tell us.
